F.A.Q.’s

WHAT IS A LUBRICANT MADE OF?

  • Base oils & additives.
WHAT FACTORS AFFECT A LUBRICANT’S VISCOSITY?

A lubricant’s viscosity is influenced by:

  • Oil Composition (types of hyrdrocarbons, weight, and additives).
  • Temperature – ↓ with increased temperature, ↑ with decreased temperature.
  • Pressure.
WHY USE MULTI GRADE LUBRICANTS?

  • A multi grade lubricant’s viscosity is maintained across a wide range of temperatures.
WHY ARE THERE ADDITIVES IN SOME LUBRICANTS?

  • Add performance properties to lubricants.
  • Improve specific base oil properties.
WHAT IS A FOOD GRADE LUBRICANT?

  • Food Grade Lubricants are lubricants (Oil or Grease) which are used to lubricate machinery in the food industry.
WHERE CAN NSF H-1 FOOD GRADE LUBRICANTS BE USED?

  • On food machinery.
  • For food producing and manufacturing.
  • For food packing, processing.
  • Preparing, treating, packaging.
  • Food transportation (i.e., forklifts in a processing/handling facility).
WHAT IS A GREASE?

  • A grease is a lubricant trapped or held in suspension by a thickening agent.
WHAT IS A THE “DROPPING POINT” OF A LUBRICANT?

  • The temperature at which the lubricant converts from a semi-solid state to a liquid.
WHAT IS THE FLASH POINT OF A LUBRICANT?

  • The lowest possible temperature at which a substance gives off enough vapor to ignite the air with an ignition source.
WHAT IS MEANT BY THE TERM “SUPER CLEAN” IN OUR TECHNOLUBE PRODUCTS?

  • Products which meet or exceed MIL-SPEC’s and are passed through a highly efficient filtration system (in LSC’s case the filters are 0.03 micron) are considered to be “Super Clean”.
WHAT ARE AUTOMOTIVE AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS?

  • Automotive Aftermarket Products are specialized performance enhancing fluids and cleaning agents designed especially for the automotive aftermarket.
